Lily Collins is super excited Jamie Campbell Bower is joining the cast of The Mortal Instruments as Jace Wayland! The 22-year-old actress actually found out that Jamie, 22, was her Jace over the internet! Lily told MTV News that she already had a strong feeling it was going to be him when he came in for the audition.
“I think we literally, we found our Jace that day,” Lily said.
The Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare had a similar feeling when she saw Jamie’s audition footage. “He auditioned with Lily, and he and Lily had incredible chemistry that sort of blazed off the screen… I’m watching the audition, and I literally started crying because that was my Jace and Clary on the screen.”

With a resume full of projects like “Harry Potter,” “Twilight,” “Camelot” and now “The Mortal Instruments,” actor Jamie Campbell Bower seems to have a thing for flicks with supernatural plots. Set to play Shadowhunter Jace Wayland in “City of Bones,” it’s certain that Jamie has pretty much locked his status as the go-to supernatural movie dude.
When we caught up with the Brit while promoting his Starz series “Camelot” (and before he nabbed his “Mortal Instruments” part), the subject of his resume came up, and he seemed completely fine with it.
“It’s just the way that I look!” he laughed when we asked why he’s turned up in so many supernatural stories. “It’s the hair and the face and being English, I suppose. I’ve always just been draw to a great tale, I suppose. And with ‘Twilight’ and ‘Potter’ and ‘Camelot,’ you know, they were great, great stories that I really wanted to be a part of telling. I would, however, like to play Joe Blow in a romantic comedy. I think it would be exciting. It would be a challenge.”
Well, that challenge may have to wait, since he’ll be busy working on “Mortal Instruments,” which is definitely not a romantic comedy.
He added, “But am I drawn to those kinds of stories? Maybe. Maybe subconsciously,” then laughing off his legacy, “Maybe I’m just doomed to be the guy at Comic-Con for the rest of my life.”
What’s your theory as to why JCB ends up in so many supernatural projects?

EXCLUSIVE: Screen Gems has made its choice: Jamie Campbell Bower will get the male lead in The Mortal Instruments, the Scott Charles Stewart-directed adaptation of the Cassandra Clare novel series. He’ll play Jace Wayland, starring alongside Lily Collins, who’ll play the lead heroine Clary Fray. She has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace is one of the best of the latter. When Clary’s mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back. Clare’s series is comprised of six novels and is expected to launch a franchise. The role has been considered a potential star-making vehicle for an actor, and there has been much speculation on who’ll get it. I’m told the deal is being made now for Bower, who is best known for playing King Arthur in the TV series Camelot, and for playing Caius in the final installments of The Twilight Saga and Gellert Grindelwald in the final Harry Potter films. He’s repped by CAA and London-based Simon Beresford.
