‘Mortal Instruments’ Star Jamie Blames His Hair For Supernatural Roles

With a resume full of projects like “Harry Potter,” “Twilight,” “Camelot” and now “The Mortal Instruments,” actor Jamie Campbell Bower seems to have a thing for flicks with supernatural plots. Set to play Shadowhunter Jace Wayland in “City of Bones,” it’s certain that Jamie has pretty much locked his status as the go-to supernatural movie dude.

When we caught up with the Brit while promoting his Starz series “Camelot” (and before he nabbed his “Mortal Instruments” part), the subject of his resume came up, and he seemed completely fine with it.

“It’s just the way that I look!” he laughed when we asked why he’s turned up in so many supernatural stories. “It’s the hair and the face and being English, I suppose. I’ve always just been draw to a great tale, I suppose. And with ‘Twilight’ and ‘Potter’ and ‘Camelot,’ you know, they were great, great stories that I really wanted to be a part of telling. I would, however, like to play Joe Blow in a romantic comedy. I think it would be exciting. It would be a challenge.”

Well, that challenge may have to wait, since he’ll be busy working on “Mortal Instruments,” which is definitely not a romantic comedy.

He added, “But am I drawn to those kinds of stories? Maybe. Maybe subconsciously,” then laughing off his legacy, “Maybe I’m just doomed to be the guy at Comic-Con for the rest of my life.”

What’s your theory as to why JCB ends up in so many supernatural projects?

Maybe he attracts such roles because he is…mad? But, seriously, this Jace role won’t do him much good. The movie market for supernat/vampire and such stuff roles seems saturated. The storylines become thinner every round. Could be the beginning of decline of his career. He should pick some serious roles with serious acting involved and demonstrate that he can do it. Else he might be out of business in a few years.

Agree partially with xudeto. JCB gets some not so favorable reviews for his Arthur. Some say he’s cast against type. Problem is that directing/screenplay for Camelot aren’t very good to start with. This problem could strike badly on Jamie with Mortal Instruments. The director of MI isn’t known as master of his profession. The two major movies he did this far received critical to negative reception. And J’s co-star, Lily Collins, isn’t known as a great acting talent either. Could lead to disappointment on the side of MI fans, and others won’t bother much about that flick, it’s true, theres too much fantasy junk around now as many follow that current fashion just to make money. JCB should very carefully consider which roles/movies he chooses.
